Who we are

From receiving information to understanding and using it.

We design experiences that help people move beyond receiving information to understanding it, questioning it, applying it and sharing it responsibly.

Our work sits at the intersection of health communication, education, One Health, serious games and digital learning. We focus especially on young people and communities, using practical and creative formats that make complex issues easier to understand and act upon.

Our mission

Build a health-literate society.

To build a health-literate society through gamified learning, communication and advocacy, enabling people to make informed decisions and contribute to stronger, healthier communities.

Our ambition

A leading African platform for health and environmental literacy.

To become known for turning difficult public-health information into learning experiences that people can understand, practise and use.

How we work

From information to informed action.

Understand

Make information clear

Translate technical health information into forms people can understand.

Think

Question and connect ideas

Create space for people to test assumptions, compare information and make sense of context.

Decide

Practise judgement

Use scenarios, games and discussion to make choices and encounter consequences.

Act & influence

Apply and share learning

Support people to use what they learn and help others make informed decisions.

Our methods

Five ways AFHEG turns information into learning.

Serious games & simulations

Decision-based experiences that allow participants to encounter consequences, trade-offs and system pressures.

Digital learning

Courses, quizzes, videos, explainers, podcasts and interactive activities that extend learning beyond one-off events.

Health communication

Clear language, storytelling and public information that people can understand and use.

Youth-led engagement

Building young people's capacity to communicate health information, engage peers and participate in community action.

Research & learning

Documenting implementation, testing approaches and separating immediate programme signals from evidence of sustained change.

Our focus

Where we focus our work.

Antimicrobial resistance

Antibiotic use, self-medication, medicine sharing, adherence and the human-animal-environment connections that shape AMR.

Climate & health

Helping communities understand how climate, environment and health interact and what informed local action can look like.

Mental health

Accessible spaces and learning experiences that support reflection, communication and help-seeking.

Sexual & reproductive health

Understandable, age-appropriate health information and youth-centred learning.

Health systems literacy

Helping the public understand system pressures, resource trade-offs, patient safety and access to care.

Risk & public information

Strengthening people's ability to receive, verify, simplify, communicate and respond to health information.

Leadership

Built from health communication, education and experimentation.

AFHEG Foundation is led by Founder & Chief Executive Officer Phillip Andrew Mwebaza, with Caroline Nalubega Tusabe as Co-Founder.

Where we are going

From programmes to a reusable learning system.

AFHEG's next phase is to build an integrated system in which serious games, digital learning, youth facilitators, research and communication reinforce one another.

The strategic direction is to deepen evidence in Uganda, strengthen One Health and climate-health learning, develop products that can adapt across contexts, and build partnerships that allow proven approaches to travel without losing local relevance.
